Working on a project to stimulate people to move with a game and social element, I have been thinking more about a TED talk by Tom Chatfield: 7 ways games reward the brain. What if we would make design addictive? What if people just need to use your product? It would be great to integrate that into design products! I have also been refreshing my memory about a lecture by Roberto Verganti author of Design driven innovation. He asked what makes design good design. The metaphor used to explain it is excellent I think: What if you had to find a girl (or boy) to love for a weekend? Well, she would have a nice curved body, beautiful eyes and humour and so on. But what if you had to find the love of your life, a girl to share the rest of your life with? That is not about any expectations, specifications or whatsoever. It is something unexplainable, like the enormous group of apple geeks who just love and want to have the newest iPhone five times in a row. To me, Verganti has a point and seducing, addicting or rewarding people with your products may be a solution.
